After a successful 20-year career in performance management, strategy planning and crisis communications in the political and public sectors at executive levels, Carole began an academic career furthering her interests in the social impacts of change and disruptions. A Master’s in Philosophy (Interdisciplinary) at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador focused her thinking on the forces of political and economic empire; a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Political Economy at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, established research interests in the social impacts of weather-related disasters, community reconstruction, mass tourism, and new forms of post-colonialism. Carole’s civic service career spans from executive positions at various international and national environmental sustainability organizations (LEAD Canada, LEAD International, and Guide to the Good) to women’s empowerment advocacy groups (Canada’s “The Prosperity Project”), professional associations (Canadian Anthropology Society) and as a trustee with the health authorities (Newfoundland and Labrador Health Authority).
