Global Climate Risks
The world faces a cascade of risks stemming from the climate crisis. From extreme weather to food and water insecurity, public health and humanitarian crises, sea level rise and economic losses, trade and supply chain disruption and cities too hot to live in, climate change is impacting every corner of the planet.
The poles are a key driver in accelerating climate change. The Arctic is warming rapidly, at least four times faster than the global average, because of human emissions and disproportionately driving these risks back to us. What’s at stake in the poles is the future of humanity itself.
The Global Climate Risks Platform is a dashboard that curates worldwide climate risks and makes polar science accessible to business leaders, policymakers, and everyone involved in managing climate risks.
The Big Picture
Instead of thinking about the polar regions as distant lands, we need to think of them more like a control centre for climate risk mitigation. The more decision-makers understand the polar regions and engage with polar science data, the better we can enhance understanding of global climate risks.
