What happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic

About Us

What we do

We are a team of Arctic experts and scientists who, for the last seven years, have brought the Arctic to the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting at Davos. We set up a real Arctic science basecamp, with an expedition tent which acts as our workplace during the day and our dormitory at night, camping in sub-zero temperatures to bring a message of global risk to the world leaders at the WEF.

The Arctic Basecamp at Davos concept was created by Executive Director Gail Whiteman, as a vehicle to bring this message to global leaders. She, along with a small team, has brought the event to the World Economic Forum each year from 2017 to 2023, calling for action from global leaders to apply responsive and responsible leadership to address global risks from Arctic change.

In 2021 we participated in the online Davos Agenda with a high level panel and an exciting programme of online conversations and entertainment – find out more here.

We have also pitched our tent at COP26 in Glasgow, Glastonbury Festival in June 2022 and the Arctic Circle Assembly in October 2022.  Our latest activation was at the WEF 2023 meeting in Davos Switzerland.

In 2022 Arctic Basecamp launched the Arctic Risk Platform to empower decision-makers across the globe, from policy makers to businesses, with science-based knowledge about the risks of Arctic change.

Arctic Basecamp is a registered not for profit in the Netherlands.
